could your mechanic not diagnose the root cause of why the belt broke in the first place? was it simply due to age or another factor such as a bad harmonic dampener or locked up ac pulley? Your mechanic should be able to tell ya whats goin on if not find another one.

they keep your belts attached to the pulley. kind of like super glue, but without the glue part. they mainly come into play when vtec hits (only came on hondas) to keep the sound resonating equally, hence the name, harmonic balancer.

harmonic balancer is about an hour job. its a crank pulley at the bottom of your motor that pulls all of your acc belts. a/c, ps, and alt. the "squeel" you would hear on a cold start was the alt. belt needing to be tightened. u turned an 8 min/$20 job into a 300+ dollar job. there saying your an idiot because hondas are interfering motors and when the timing belt breaks, other shit usually does too such as valves and if you see the timing belt half off that the car shouldnt be driven like that period. you should have just been 5-10 min late for work.
