Lowering your car without a spring compressor?
Hey, I just got my skunk2 lowering springs, i've got the front springs on but my spring compressor won't fit in the rear springs, i either need a thin walled spring compressor. My friend also mentioned he removed his springs without a compressor... Is this possible and/or safe. He says he's never used a compressor and he's done it over 10 times...

get the springs on the rear struts and use heavy duty zip ties to compress the spring( had to do it a couple times but make sure you can cut the ties once the spring is installed)

Re: Lowering your car without a spring compressor?
lay it in the grass
put a blanket over the hat assembly
have one person on either side of the blanket
you stand on the damper
then reach under and take the hat assembly off
-it will pop, like a chicks cherry. you will lose or deform the parts. and basically someone will end up with a very sore or bruised ankle, maybe both .
imho, just take it somewhere. just have them disassemble it, it should only cost a couple of dollars if you just bring them the damper assembly. seriously, last time i actually used stock dampers when lowering, it cost like $20 to have all four springs removed.
btw: learn a lesson here. just buy the upper hat assembly and new dampers when you lower a car. it will make the ride 10x better, and the job 1000x easier.

I did all 4 of my springs without a compressor. Front 2 sent the hat maybe a foot. My rears are not under much compression either so they sent it maybe 5 inches.

Re: Lowering your car without a spring compressor?
dannggg.... some of the suggestions here are dangerous.... Here's what I did:
Once you get the whole strut assembly out, just take an impact and loosen the hat while the assembly is sitting on the ground faced away from anything. It will pop out and travel about 3 feet away..... I've done this on 3rd gen Tegs and 5th/6th gen civics.... dont know about other cars tho....
