Once you get the whole strut assembly out, just take an impact and loosen the hat while the assembly is sitting on the ground faced away from anything. It will pop out and travel about 3 feet away..... I've done this on 3rd gen Tegs and 5th/6th gen civics.... dont know about other cars tho....

You can also use a jack and hold the entire assembly up by the rotor. Then just let the jack down after loosening the top nut. We've done it tons of times.

hold it real close to your chest as you loosen that top bolt, let it pop off into your chest, fall back and feel like a dumbass out of breath. Repeat for other side. Worked for me hahaha

first time i ever did it i put the assembly in a vise and forgot to cover with a blanket, well once that bolt came off and shit flew everywhere, lets just say i spent more time looking for bolts that day then actually working. but def. fuck spring compressors, as long as you have health insurance and some friends who love to laugh and tell you when you wake up in the hospital how funny it was, then it was worth it.

every bodys an idiot use the cars weight to compress the springs
jack the car
stabilize the load of the car
remove rear wheels
SPRAY ALL LOWER EXPOSED NUTS WITH THE PB BLASTER!!!!!!! 1 day before removal
using stabile floor jack slighly apply upward load to under side of lca
remove upper strut nut (the one in the middle)
then slowly lower jack until the spring is safely un loaded
