Re: LS/VTEC Setup - Opinions
I'll have to disagree with ya on this. Back in 2001 I built (and just sold) a 237hp, 11.8:1cr, 81.5mm, N/A, B16A2 with a ITR manny, RC bored 64mm ITR TB, Sk2 St2 cams, ITR Header, 320cc RC injectors and a Shad tuned Hondata.
Now how in the hell did I go from 160hp to 237hp? Yes Shad did a fuckin outstanding tune (64 pulls at last count) but I've yet to see a local 11.8:1cr, 81.5mm, N/A, B16 put down these kind of numbers.
So where did it come from?!?
Dude...it's in the head!

Also. I'd spend the money NOW on getting the head built, and getting a doo doo intake/header/intake manifold/stock TB and put down some weak numbers and then change them once you get the money later on.
Thats just me.

• Skunk2 Custom Header
• Skunk2 Stage 1 Cams
• Skunk2 Custom Short Ram Intake
• Skunk2 Exhaust 165->190 110->115 81mm X 77.4mm 1.6L DOHC VTEC 11:1 Comp
STEP 2 • Skunk2 Pro-Series Intake Manifold
• Skunk2 Stage 2 or Pro 1 Cams
• S2 Valves, S2 Springs & S2 Retainers
• Skunk2 / Hondata ECU
190->218 115->126
STEP 3 • Skunk2 Ported Head
• Skunk2 Stage 3 or Pro 2 Cams
• Skunk2 Throttle Body
• Comp Ratio increased to 11:1 218->232 126->134
This is from the Skunk2 site. Notice that they increases the compression by almost a point, upped the camshaft, and ported the head, and only got an additional 14 hp........
Again.....$$$ versus benefit????? (Most of what you saw, is in the bolt-on's. Look at the upgrade path, and where it went!)

Re: LS/VTEC Setup - Opinions
Put the money into the bottom end first and go 84.5 with a solid bottom. Not bored out LS, get something sleeved or b20. You will see bigger gains in a 2.0 build than putting a 81.5mm setup together. The extra money will be a bigger benefit in the torque than porting the head. That's if you can't afford it. Yes, porting is going to get you the best results. If you get some good cams, you will have to upgrade the valvetrain as well.
My build is about the same... just waiting to tune..
B20 bored out to 84.5mm
Wiseco 3cc dome pistons
Eagle rods
GSR head PORTED with REV flat valves OMNI dual valvesprings
Skunk S2S2 cams and gears
Edelbrock intake with 70mm TB
Going with Hytech copy header...
Hoping for 210/150 on conservative tune

quit bein a douche and port ur head...
remember that honda book i never got back from u...lol.... it says on a b16 a short turn, cleaning up the casting, port match, and slightly cutting the guides has given the best results..
im sure we could get it right.... besides both of us know a certain someone with a flow bench so we both know its right.

Well, then you do what you want.
Although I do like Sk2's cams, I do not like their valve train componets. And in your example...11:1cr is a bit low for stag3/pro 2's
BTW...Sk2 is NOT known for their porting ablities.

BTW all these examples are from EXPERIENCE type applications. Noone is telling you what they think(well at least me and Yell88CRXsi), it is strickly what we have seen. Regardless of what you do, update us and tell us what happens. numbers, etc.
