how far out is the timing? if its retarded 4.5* = you have a y7/y8 gear on your z6 cam.
no special belt when doing a mini on a d16. just match t-belt to head. i.e. z6 head = z6 belt, y8 head = y8 belt.
now a d15 mini requires the belt from a d15b7, iirc.

i think it would be easier to set the block. the take the valve cover off and spin the cam until cylinder 1 was in compression stroke which to prevent from being 180 out you could take off the dizzy cap and make sure it pointing to number 1 wire. but to line it up to be dead on would be kinda difficult. but that could help you out some. i had a d15b7 block with a z6 head and i think mine was all out of wack until we finally got it. hope that helps some

Not true, when using a 1.5 you use the z6 belt and an adjustable cam gear, its like a half tooth off. i did one before and ran perfect
