Not so. The outcome (expressed as a percentage relative to each other) will be the same no matter how much power you put behind that gearing.
To end the argument, shorter gears are better for acceleration (faster 1/4 mile times).

When you're shifting you aren't accellerating. Longer gearing allows you to stay in the fat part of your power curve while the guy next to you is flying past his peak then shifting below it again.
Then factor in tires, suspension, etc. Shorter isn't always better. Why do you think a C6 Z06 isn't geared like a B16?
And on top of all that, the original poster never even said what he planned to do with his car. And people chime in saying he has the poorest tranny? Come on.
Even if he was faster down the quarter mile, he'd likely be slower on a road course, slower at an autocross, more annoyed on the highway, and pissed off at the gas pump.

There is no such thing as poor gearing, just longer or shorter gearing. Different setups are better for different applications.
For insance, there are a few LSD'd available for my car. I'm getting a 3.61 because anything with shorter gears than that would be pointless for my application.
