Wink Re: SR20DET Turbo Question

Okay, first off...blackout...you're a dick! But your'e still right. Its true i talk alot about what i actually want instead of what im going to get it. The reason for it now, is i dont have to dream about it anymore...im actually going to do it!
Anyway, i guess i should have made my question much more clear. I want a turbo that spools decently, and gives me the 350-400HP range. 350 is what id like to start at with cams, injectors, and some tuning. 400 is what i want on tap for track time and screwing around. Id be happy with 350 daily. I drive alot on the highway, i love the drag strip even though its overrated. And id love to drift on the weekends if i could find a place to learn more.
I ran a 13.5 @104 on my T25, and running 11's would make me smile. I personally think the GT2871R .64 is where i should go. I like the spool of the smaller AR housing, and dont really see the need for the .84 A/R. I wanted everyones opinion so i could make a final decision. Ill be ordering the turbo sometime soon after christmas.
As far as manifoilds go, i assumed a bottom mount would be sufficient, but blackout keeps talking me to death about the top mount manifolds. I really dont know if i would benefit from using a top mount on an internal wastegated small turbo. The 2871R isnt a huge turbo, and id have to redo all of my hotpipe and intake plumbing.
I want to do a simple engine management setup. My buddy is running a SuperAFC II, a wideband, and retuned ECU and making 625RWHPon a Supra with a T78. I helped him tune it the other night, and liked the simplicity of it.
I hope this helps everyone, and thanks again for taking the time to help a brotha out.

Get a Z32 MAF and then contact Enthalpy about an ECU reflash.

If you go with a top mount manifold with all that plumbing, you might as well get a garrett T3/T04E 50 trim with .63 A/R from cheapturbos.com or boostfed and spend $650 instead of $1100 on the turbo. It will make the same hp and cost less.

Yeah but Ive been hearing bad things about turbos from phoenix turbos and cheapturbo.com, and at the same time... it seems this particular turbo is making a name for itself with SR's. I dunno, I'll look more into the T3/T4 setup.
As far as the top mount manifold thing, i dont think i need it...a bottom mount should be enough, unless im hurting the turbo sitting it right next to the block.

I couldn't agree more

I have an Enthalpy tune, Z32 maf, and 740cc injectors. Enthalpy tune isn't much more than an AFC and you get soooo much more from Scott's experience and tuning skill.

bottom mount it! sure it isn't as much eye candy as a top mount but, you don't have to worry about melting your brake MC and you can be a little more stealth. FullRace makes a bottom mount with any flange you want that is worthy of an art exibit........if you have the cash

Yeah, i think ill check out full race...ive heard that they are really fuckin expensive...but may be worth every penny. Peak boost makes some manifolds too, although ive only seen the top mounts im sure they have bottoms too. Thanks.

www.jgycustoms.com they sell the GT2871r. I was gonna get this setup for mine, but I sold the car. They have full "kit" that include 72 lb injector, fuel rail and JWT ECU. Just slap a SSAutoChrome tube mani and elbow on there for 150 bucks.
