New what?

You can go to advance or autozone and get a spark tester pretty cheap. Its something you should have on hand anyway. Never know when you may need it. Plugs into the wire and then onto the plug and when you try to crank it, you can see the spark in the clear part of the tester. Only need one person to test spark that way and its much easier.

Yea pick one up and plug it into cyl #1 and see if you get spark.

When you try to start the car are you getting the engine to turn over (does it sound like its trying to start), a single click or multiple clicks(tick, tick, tick, tick...)

well it was multiple , just kept trying, yesterday a couple times when batt. was on charger , engine sounded like it was kicking a lil but would go right back to just cranking.

since ive last messed with it today, it was dead dead and only dash lights were comming on, this was after when i tried with new starter the ground wire burnt off. so at the moment car is dead dead on batt charger. if car doesnt start crankin i wont be able to test the spark, hopefully batt. was just dead from the short. may have to check fuses too

wow.. so the motor will crank over(spin) just fine and wont fire(start)? sometimes people use poor terminology when trying to describe a problem. make sure you have a good ground connection first, then tell me what its doing.

Have you checked to see if youre getting power to the starter?

If not thats the first thing I would do now.
