Turns out it was a PCV valve . . .which is built into the valve cover so they had to replace the entire valve cover. Searching online, this seems to be waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to common of a problem for this vehicle.

It's actually a common problem for many vehicles that have the PCV system built into the VC. We see it on BMWs every now and then.

That's about as dumb as having to replace a throttle body because the TPS starts going bad.
