Strait from the NHRA rule book

4.20> Rollbars/Cages: This is a general overview. All NHRA/IHRA
SFI specs apply contingent upon vehicle construction and ET.
Nothing herein should be construed to override existing NHRA/IHRA
SFI specifications. All chassis must have appropriate certification
stickers prior to entering competition. A roll bar is mandatory in all
cars running 11.99 or quicker and in convertibles running 13.99 or
quicker. Roll cages are mandatory in cars 10.99 or quicker or in any
car exceeding 135 mph, even in Street classes. But full-bodied cars
with unaltered firewalls, floor and body (from firewall rearward, wheel
tubs permitted) running between 10.00 and 11.99 may run a roll bar
in place of a roll cage. Vehicles running 9:99 or 135 mph and
quicker, with roll cages must have cages/chassis re-inspected and
certified every three years. Chassis certification sticker must be in
place prior to start of competition. All roll bars must be fashioned in a
manner so that they are within 6 inches of the rear or side of the
driver's head, and extend at least 3 inches above the driver's head
with the driver in the normal seated position and should be at least as
wide as the driver's shoulder or within 1 inch of the door. Rear braces
must be of the same diameter and wall thickness as the roll bar and
intersect with the roll bar at a point not more than 5 inches from the
top of the roll bar. Sidebar must provide driver's side protection at a
point midway between the driver's shoulder and elbow. Swing out
sidebars permitted. All roll bars must include a cross bar for seat
bracing and the shoulder harness attachment point and not be
installed not more than 4 inches below and not above the driver's
shoulders. All vehicles with OEM frame must have roll bar attached
to frame. Unibody cars with stock floor and firewall intact (wheel tubs
permitted) may attach roll bar with 6 inch x 6 inch .125” steel plates
on top and bottom of floor bolted together with at least 4 bolts 3/8” in
diameter or weld the main hoop to the rocker sill area with .125” steel
plates so long as TIG welds completely join plates to chassis. No
grinding of welds…welds should be high quality, free of slag and
excess porosity. Full-bodied cars must have cage set up so that
driver's helmet is in front of the main hoop. If helmet is behind or
under main hoop, additional tubing of same size and diameter must
be added to protect driver. Main hoop may be laid back or forward,
but driver must be encapsulated within the cage as required. All
required rear braces must be welded at a minimum angle of 30
degrees from vertical. Competitors are urged to have only competent
certified chassis builders attempt construction of cages/roll bars.
Further, all applicable chassis certification stickers must be in place
prior to competing at a NDRA event. Competitors in Turbo 6 are
reminded that many of these regulations apply to cars in the Power 6
class due to speeds and ET's. On all cars requiring a roll cage, if the
OEM firewall has been modified in excess of 1 square foot of material
removed, a lower windshield or dash bar 1 ¼” x .058” thick Chrome
Molly 4130 or 1 ¼” x .118” steel bar is mandatory connecting the
forward cage supports

Dex, if you want a 6 or 8 point cage then do it. I wouldn't worry about the dumb girls on their cell-phones. The top bar will be behind your seat and up next to the headliner away from your head. It will stiffen the chassis and add protection for rollovers and maybe even some for side impacts. Always wear a seatbelt. Put padding on the bars if it makes you feel more comfortable but it doesn't look good.
You're right. Dex, glad to hear you finally got a car, can't wait to see it .......and Rotor Sports guarantee's their rebuild....12 month on 2mm seals, and 18 month on 3mm seals. Which is probably as long as it will run.

Thanks everyone, I am going to get a cage, because I think it is best, and from everyone I haved talked to, it is legal, and I will need it to run.

BTW, I got my donor Saturday, and that bitch is already in pieces My suspension is going in this weekend if I get it. I will have pics of it soon. This seems to have a lot of people interested, a V8 in an import. I can't wait
