Default lets talk fishing

I grew up fishing alot through the years when I lived in Blacksburg. I am trying to get back into the sport. What are some good spots that people like in the Roanoke area?
On another note me and a buddy went to the Roanoke river above the hydroelectric dam off the parkway. Everybody fishes below the dam but I was curious to know if anyone has fished above the dam and how deep does the water get in that spot?

You know I can't be associated with you if you start fishing again, right?

I did some concrete work there a couple years ago. I think it is pretty deep but I believe there is a pretty good under current. Not sure how that would affect your lures (sp). I did see some huge fish at the bottom though, plus some huge turtles.

You mean that's all it would take. I wish I knew this several years ago.

I have trouble enjoying standing in or alongside of a body of water to fish. I've fished from the dock multiple times and that's not so bad, but it's just not the same. I grew up taking the boat out with my grandfather and my dad in the Barren River Lake in Kentucky, and it was just a different type of experience. Definitely makes me really miss my grandpa. He knew more about fishing than I could ever hope to in my entire life, and he was a really patient teacher.
