Yep.. atx motherboards typically have per slot restrictions.

Ever see "2gb max" on the side of a motherboard box? Read the details in the memory section (or look on the manufactuers website which is quicker) and it'll show 512x4, etc. If there were no per slot restrictions, there'd be no restrictions period.
