Perhaps for some. I won't speak for them. Kind of like how the synonyms for democratic are:
"poor ass low class ignorant fools"
"communists"
"take from the rich give to the poor"
"lets pump more imaginary money into our failing economy"
"let's not let capitalism do it's work all on its own"
"let's give all our power to the government, they know what's best right?"
Here's a good quote, from one of our wise forefathers speaking towards leaders like Obama:
"The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who are not." -- Thomas Jefferson
I'll save the best for later if you want to keep this going...

I don't understand democrats... Well, let me change that. I don't understand people who are economically liberal. We see their view points all over the world in failing economies, and yet people still want to implement them to make our country fairer... I mean, more unfair. Because it's damn fair now, and you are changing from a democracy when you allow these people to change things that make people who aren't motivated even less motivated by giving them handouts.
God don't get me started...
BTW, I love that quote. Good ole TJ.

Re: is Roanoke a good place to live?
All I see is a lot of people throwing around the republican battle cries which are not founded in reality. Socialism? Nope. Not even close. Even the head of the socialist party says that Obama's policies are nothing like their own.
Take from the rich and give to the poor? No. The democratic stance is that all people should pay equal taxes, which is what Obama's tax increase for the rich is working towards. He is proposing raising the tax rate from 35% to 39% for people that make over $250,000 a year. Honestly, if you are making that much, you don't have anything to complain about anyways. The 95 percent-plus of the American population that earns less than $250,000 would see the following tax breaks: A $500-per-worker tax credit for people who earn less than $150,000 and do not itemize, and a $4,000 credit per child in college. Seniors who earn less than $50,000 would pay no income tax.
However, if any of you actually make $250,000+ a year, feel free to complain all you want.
Sounds pretty good to me. Nobody is saying anything about not working for your money except the republicans who only resorted to that when their last president in office went from our country having the biggest surplus ever to being in the worst financial state ever, and they realized nobody in their right mind would elect another republican.
But, all this is a subject for another thread, I guess, so I'll shut up on the subject now. I know I'm not going to change a republican's mind any more than they are going to change my mind.
Roanoke still sucks.

Taking money away from the rich to "make tax paying more fair" is stupid. And saying, "they don't need it anyway" is a lazy attitude. It is THEIR money. Not yours. Who are you to decide what is enough? Everything is about you (not you you, I'm saying this in general).
If you want to make is so fair, why don't you tax everyone at the same rate. Tax the people under the poverty line. Why not? You want to make it fair.
Economic liberalism spurns unemployment. Please, do something for me. Check the unemployment rates of economically liberal countries. Say... France?
Surplus in budget, coming from taxes spurned by the internet boom. I like how you play the internet boom as something President Clinton actually had something to do with. Please, don't play statistics.
The worst financial state ever? People are really this delusional? You are the people who are making it worse. And then you blame President Bush (Who I hate) for something that was really caused by a bill signed by President Clinton (well, at least the initial subprime problems were).
I'm not sure what it takes for people to understand, but I'm about as logical as you can be and all you have to do is look at facts. I'm open-minded as hell and it's pretty easy to see what works and what doesn't.

I actually like the area, but it depends on what you are looking for and what you can afford.

Re: is Roanoke a good place to live?
I still say Roanoke sucks. If I could move, I would.
My two daughters live here, and they are the sole reason I'm staying. Once they get old enough to go off to college, I'll be out of here. We're currently eyeing Asheville as a new home, but we'll have to see in 8 years how things look.

It all depends on who you are. Some people would hate the area, some people would love it.
I mean, I love Franklin County...
